Trainer Neville Parnham has high hopes former $250,000 yearling Zourun Run will earn starts in major Perth carnival races by winning the Burgess Queen Stakes at Ascot on Tuesday.

The three-year-old filly, a daughter of premier Australian sire Zoustar, has won twice in a four-start career and impressed when a first-up Belgravia Stakes fifth on October 25.

She will be matched against quality rivals in the $125,000 Burgess Queen (1400m), which highlights Perth Racing’s popular Melbourne Cup day meeting.

“Zourun Run has come on well since her first-up run,” WA Racing Hall of Fame inductee Parnham said on Sunday.

“Given she was only 0.8 lengths from the winner in the Belgravia, I think she comes into the race (Burgess Queen) with good prospects.

“She has won at 1400m and is drawn handily. Pace should be good, with Ourgirlcanrun engaged. This will suitZourun Run.

“The Burgess Queen has a nice line up of fillies, but I think Zourun Run will be about the finish.”

Zourun Run, who was offered at a Perth yearling sale, is shaping to recoup her purchase price. Imminent three-year-old races include the $300,000 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 15. Elite fillies will later tackle colts and geldings in the $500,000 WA Guineas (1600m).

TABtouch fixed odds tightened Zourun Run from $11 to $8 for the Burgess Queen after punters supported her on Sunday.
